Ads, Ads, Ads

googleimages.com
Advertisements have been part of my memories since, well, as long as I can remember. As a kid I had many TV jingles in my head about Fruity Pebbles, My Little Pony, Sea Wees, Disney Melody Time, and so on. Even as an adult, I am persuaded by ads to buy something, go somewhere, see this movie, watch that show. But WHY do Ads work? What made Fruity Pebbles so attractive? Well, they are delicious. But they are colorful and used to have cool little toys in them before cereal and Cracker Jack toys began to really suck. Seriously, is a printed maze on a box really anything to get excited about? Almost anything can be made appealing through advertisement. The multiple layers of subconscious manipulation and stimulation tells something primitive in humans: "I have to have it!"

Humor is often very appealing. Here are a couple of Ads that make me laugh, and therefore, are memorable.

This is how I often feel in the morning (I'm referring to the grumpy people...), so I love this commercial...

What else sells?  SEX SELLS!

Who we want and who we want to be...very enticing concepts.

Fun can catch my attention.  I like to laugh and have a good time, and perhaps a product can make that happen!

A cause can influence people to but something.
Check out this youtube ad that has convinced me to never buy any other dish soap than Dawn...
Whatever the reason, ads are very effective.  I always look forward to the Super Bowl...Super Bowl commercials!

Hello and welcome to My1301ClassBlog.blogspot.com!
This is a blog for Summer Sanderson's ENGL1301 class.  We will all be writing blogs this semester in order to broaden our understanding of genre writing.
JUST A REMINDER: YOU WILL ONLY SHOW THAT YOU VISITED THIS BLOG. THE 2 PARAGRAPHS ARE FOR YOUR BLOG THAT YOU WILL CREATE.

A few things to keep in mind:

1. Though some blogs that you will write will be non-academic, you must keep your language and topics professional.  Your grade will reflect my unhappiness if you choose to write purposefully insulting, derogatory, or inflammatory blogs.  Keep your language at a PG to PG-13 level.  We're all legal adults, but let Hollywood work in profanity like an art form...not you.
2. You will be required to write four blogs that are related to class and academia, and four that are whatever you choose to write about.  You may write more, but not less.
3. You are required to read and comment on other blogs.  This is part of your grade.  Keep all commentary constructive, positive, and without any hint of insult.  As aforementioned, keep the language at a PG to PG-13 level.
4. ALWAYS give credit for your sources, quotes, and photos just like you would if you were writing a research paper.
5. Have fun! This is your chance to write how you want to write, and to write for a large and varied audience.  Let go of Bain's five paragraph essay (not the "Dark Knight" Bane. Different guy).
